Prisoner Of Words

" Prisoner Of Words"

We maintain disguised behind products and labels of self compromise.
Paralyzed behind padlocks separating our curiosity from the truth being realized.
The inner turmoil escapes from our chest, leaving deep cracks across our breast.

While father time airbrushes our thoughts,
painting a picture of our life that leaves us distraught.
From the womb purity we bloom, and begin to consume the toxins,
egos and attitudes that fill our room.

Surrounded by expectations before we have sought our own journeys,
then molded into an imprisoning appearance
and made to believe we were given voices but no one’s heard them.
Tattered and frayed we pave the way to being adults on display.
Looked at, and preyed upon for unpleasurable play.

  Sacrificing emotional love for strength
as we push our true feelings and dreams away.
One foot forward trying to start a protest,
but the other foot behind us, set back by stress.

Fear impacts us as we try to fit a stereotype
without losing who we are in the process.
Pushing towards an unachievable gain so fast that loss has been the only progress.

This puppet like world and the pain that it brings,
has us held together and guided by strings.
This struggle attempts to choke the individuality out of us,
confusing who we are supposed to be,
portrayed like broken mannequins wanting to be free.

Adaptation is our form of defense,
but we won’t allow this transformation to quiet our independence.
